Our Mixed Ages (0-5) family music classes are a great opportunity to bond with your child while making music as a family. A child can attend from birth through kindergarten and through all nine song collections, along with their parent(s)/caregiver. This non-performance oriented class follows the recommendations of child development researchers, grouping children of a variety of ages in one class. This approach fosters natural, family-style learning where younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones, older children learn by leading younger ones, and adults are happy as the children. Each child participates at his or her own developmental level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, observing or exploring musical instruments.
The entire family is encouraged to join in this enjoyable music experience, and any caregiver (parents, grandparents, nanny) may accompany the child to class.
Rhythm Kids by Music Together is a high-energy class where students (ages 4-8) have a blast exploring rhythms inspired by musical traditions from around the world. Rhythm Kids students learn to compose, choreograph, and conduct while making some really fun music!
Music games are played, beginning music theory is learned, confidence is boosted, and friends are made during Rhythm Kids classes. The music and movement activities support developmental growth and naturally motivate kids to focus and engage.
Whether your child is a Music Together alumnus or not, we hope he or she will join us for some bigger-kid music-learning fun! (Parent accompaniment is optional.)
If you’ve ever wished for an extra set or two of grandparents, then we have a class for you! The Generations music class is a Mixed-Age Music Together class with the sweetest twist: the addition of senior participants. Children and their caregivers visit their "Grandfriends” at Harrison Bay Senior Living in Mound and spend time making music as one big extended family.
These inter-generational music classes for seniors and children are so well loved by all parties involved. Join us to experience the pure joy and numerous benefits of music making for yourself!
Unfortunately, these classes have been on hold since the COVID-19 pandemic. We miss our grandfriends and hope to make music with them again soon!
Music Together Lakeside currently offers classes in Mound & Chanhassen.
About Music Together® Classes
Fully trained and registered Music Together teacher and center director, Heidi Gusenius, leads groups of 6-12 children and their parents or caregivers (nannies, babysitters, grandparents, or relatives) in forty-five minutes of fun-filled music and movement experiences each week.
Each class offers a rich variety of songs and rhythmic rhymes including finger plays, small and large-movement activities, dancing, instrument exploration and play, and parent education.
Children and their adults have opportunities to create and improvise - making up new words to songs, offering movement ideas, making silly sounds, and sharing musical ideas from the family's play at home.
The relaxed, playful, non-performance-oriented setting respects and supports the unique learning styles, developmental levels, and temperaments of all participants, creating a strong sense of community.
Each semester families receive a professionally recorded CD, along with music downloads, access to the Family Music Zone online portal, and a beautifully illustrated songbook for spontaneous music play beyond the weekly classes.
